10 JMB men to die for Gazipur suicide bombing

Ten Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) men were sentenced to death for involvement in the 2005 suicide bombing at Gazipur Bar association that killed eight people.Dhaka Speedy Trials Tribunal-4 Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
The ten convicted on the death row are Enayetullah aka Jewel, Arifur Rahman, Masidul Islam Masud, Saidur Rahman Munsi, Abdullah Al Sohayel, Nizamuddin Reza, Taibur Rahman Hassan, Arshadul Islam, Shafiullah Tarek and Adnan Sami Jahangir.
Another case related to this suicide bombing , filed under the Explosives Act, is pending in the same court.
JMB activist Asad (known by his many aliases like Zia, Nazir, Nahid) had blown himself up at hall-2 of Gazipur district Bar association office on Nov 29, 2005, after he entered the building dressed in a lawyer’s gown.
The bombing killed Asad and lawyers Amzad Hossain, Golam Faruque, Nurul Huda and Anwarul Azim and their clients Abdur Raub, Basir Uddin, Marzina Akhter and Shamsul Haque.
A case was filed with Joydebpur Police on the day of the attack.
Two years later on Jul 4, 2008, the crime investigation department (CID) filed a charge sheet accusing 15 JMB supporters.
Six leaders accused of abetment in the 2005 Gazipur suicide bombing have been earlier hanged oin Mar 29, 2007 ,for murdering two judges — Sohel Ahmed Chowdhury and Jagannath Para.
They were all top JMB leaders — Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Siddiqur Rahman alias Bangla Bhai, Ataur Rahman Sani, Khaled Saifullah, Iftekhar Hasan Mamun, and Abdul Awal.
Another accused Molla Omar Shakil was killed in Comilla.
Rest of the accused confessed to a Magistrate under section 164.
In January last year, the case was transferred from Gazipur court to Dhaka Speedy Trials Tribunal.
The verdict was given after examining 70 witness.
