11 BNP-Jamaat activists arrested in Rangpur

Police arrested 11 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations and Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh from different places here in the district last night for their alleged involvement with various subversive activities.

According to police sources, the arrested persons include seven leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations and four activists of Jamaat. Of them, Kotwali police arrested leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations Rahman, 26, Nurul Huda, 32, Rezaul Karim, 21, Razzaque, 21, Mujahidul, 21, Mamun, 32, and Nazmul, 35, and Jamaat men Saiduzzaman, 45, and Khondker Rafikul, 51.

On the other hand, Mithapukur Thana police arrested Jamaat activist Anwarul, 28, and Piragchha Thana police arrested Jamaat activist Azam Ali alias Golam Azam, 28.

The arrested persons are allegedly involved with various subversive activities like hurling petrol bombs on passenger buses and other vehicles and other terrorist activities conducted by them in recent days at different places in the district.

Besides, police arrested more 42 persons, including absconding accused persons of different cases, warrantees, thieves, muggers, drug traders, anti-social elements and other suspicious people last night from all eight upazilas in the district.

After primary interrogation, the arrested persons were produced before different Rangpur courts today, the sources said.
