Joint force in a drive arrested 11 activists of the main opposition BNP and its political
allies Jamaat-Shibir from four upazilas of the district early Monday on charges of their
involvement in vandalism and subversive activities.
District police control room sources said a team of the joint force, comprising members
of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, conducted an all-
out drive in Akkelpur, Panchbibi, Kalai and Sadar upazilas of the district from Sunday
midnight to early Monday.
The law enforcers then arrested the 11 opposition men for carrying out vandalism, arson
attacks, fishplate removal from rail tracks and assaulting police during the BNP-led 18-
party-enforced nationwide hartals and blockades.
The arrestees include four from Sadar upazila, five from Panchbibi, one from Akkelpur
and one from Kalai upazila.
Among them are three BNP activists, seven Jamaat activists and one Shibir activists. -UNB
