12 hurt in AL infighting in Satkhira

At least 12 people, including a union parishad chairman, were injured in a clash between two factions of ruling party Awami League over party nomination ahead of the union parishad election at Mahishkur in Ashashuni upaizla on Saturday.Local people said supporters of Nur Mohammad, president of Sreeula union unit Awami League, equipped with sharp weapons swooped on the office of Abu Hena Shakilur Rahman, chairman of local union parishad, around 9 am and hit him with sharp weapon following an enmity over getting nomination, leaving him critically injured.

Later both groups attacked each other, leaving 11 more people from both sides injured.Of the injured, six people, including Abu Hena, his son Shourav, Sirajul Islam, Shamim Hossain and Rabiul Islam, were rushed to Ashashuni upazila health complex and Satkhira Sadar Hospital.On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, said Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police Station.Connected, victim Abu Hena said he has got the nomination from the party ahead of the UP election and his rival Nur Mohammad got furious over the issue and his men might have carried out the attack.Nur Mohammad alleged that supporters of Abu Hena attacked his men. -UNB, Satkhira
