12 shops looted in Chitalmari

Some 12 shops of different items of Nalua bazar under Chitalmari
Upazila in the district were ransacked and looted by the opponents on
Thursday in the morning, it is alleged. As result, the owners of the
shops and shop keepers incurred a heavy loss of Tk,8 crores. Following
the incident controversial statements are being given by the different
quarters.
Eye-witnesses said that on the day at 11 am a gang of about 100
raided the bazar, ransacked about 12 shops of different mercantile
good and looted them. The affected shop keepers are Chunnu, Munnu,
Awal Shaikh, Eusuf Bhuiya, Tazu Shaikh. Nitai Bain, Bhulan Shaikh,
Tapan Bisws, Niru Molla, Kari Md. Abul Kalam, Nahid Shaikh and Lovelu.
At that time being afraid both shopkeepers and the buyers began to
move hither and thither.
Shaikh Mahtabuzzaman and Ramzan Ali told the newsmen on behalf of the
affected shop keepers that due to the prevailing cyclonic storm
Mahasen people took shelter in safe places, Taking the opportunity a
gang of about one hundred people headed by Shaikh Keramat Ali and FM.
Tito Fakir had raided the bazar, ransacked the shops and looted them.
But both of them denied their involvement in the affair. Besides this,
FM. Tito told the newsmen that being the secretary general of the
business community of the bazar he tried to resist the looters. but in
vein.
Newly appointed Police Super Nizamul Haq Molla, Bagerhat disclosed
that police were earlier deployed there. So, the allegation that
police were silent at the time of the incident was not correct. On the
other hand, the police brought the situation under control. He added
that in spite of that the matter would be investigated.
