13 nomination papers from six constituencies found valid in Rajshahi

Nomination papers of 13 candidates contesting from six constituencies in the district in the upcoming 10th Parliamentary Elections-2014 scheduled to be held on January 5 have been found valid.

In the scrutiny held on Thursday and Friday last, nine other nomination papers were cancelled due to various reasons, Saiful Islam, District Election Officer, here said last night.

After scrutiny, Returning Officer (RO) and Deputy Commissioner of Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury cancelled nine nomination papers and found 13 valid out of total 22 nominations submitted for contesting in six seats in the district.

Awami League (AL)-nominated candidates and incumbent lawmakers Omor Faruque Chowdhury and Engineer Enamul Haque remain now as the only candidate in Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) and Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) constituencies respectively.

In Rajshahi-2 constituency, Workers Party Politburo Member and Incumbent lawmaker Fazley Hossain Badsha, Prof Bazlur Rahman of Awami League and Zoha Sarker of Jatiya Party are now in the contest.

In Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur) constituency, Shahabuddin Bachchu of Jatiya Party and Meraj Uddin Mollah (Independent) are in the fray.

In Rajshahi-5 (Durgapur and Puthiya) seat, two candidates, AL nominated incumbent lawmaker Abdul Wadud Dara and Abul Hossain of Jatiya Party are now in the election contest.

In Rajshahi-6 (Charghat- Bagha) constituency, AL nominated incumbent lawmaker Shahriar Alam, Iqbal Hossain of Jatiya Party and Raihanul Haque (Independent) are now in the fray.

The last date for withdrawal of the candidature is December 13 next and symbol will be allocated on the following day, Saiful Islam added. -BSS, Rajshahi
