The Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Thursday condemned the attack on the motorcade of its spokesperson and ruling party presidium member Mohammad Nasim in Rajshahi. In a joint statement, nine leaders of the ruling alliance said there is no alternative to holding the 10th parliamentary polls to maintain the continuity of constitution as well as democracy. “But it’s unfortunate that the BNP-Jamaat has inflicted unbearable sufferings on people by enforcing so-called anti-people blockade programme,” they said. The 14-party leaders urged all progressive and non-communal forces to resist the communal and treacherous forces by upholding the spirit and values of Liberation War. They also demanded the government take stern legal action against the attackers with a view to saving public property and discharging the constitutional duties. The signatories to the statement include Syed Ashraful Islam, Anisur Rahman Mallick, Sharif Nurul Ambia, Dilip Barua and Nurur Rahman Selim. Miscreants hurled two crude bombs targeting the motorcade of AWami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi on Thursday noon, the second day of the nationwide nonstop blockade enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance. – UNB
