Dhaka, Dec 25 – A total of 147 aspirants yesterday collected BNP nomination forms to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls for the post of councilors. Of them, only 18 female aspirants collected nomination forms to contest in the women reserved seats in the two cities.The party aspirants yesterday collected the nomination forms from party’s city office at Bhasani Bhaban at Naya Paltan in the city as the party decided to take part in the elections.
BNP assistant organizing secretary Abdus Salam Azad told The Independent that the party yesterday started selling of nomination papers among the aspirant councilor candidates against the 75 words of the DSCC and 54 words in the DNCC.
On the first day, 65 intending candidates collected nomination forms against the general seats while only 8 female aspirants against the women reserved seats under the DSCC while 64 collected nominations against general seats and 10 for women reserved seats under the DNCC, he said.
The aspirant councilor candidates could collect nominations forms and submit those by today while the aspirant mayoral candidates for the two city corporations would be able to collect party nomination forms today and submit those by tomorrow.
The BNP leader said, after completion of selling nomination papers and submitting, the party nomination board would finalize the party candidates at the interview board on the following day.
Party sources said, Engr Ishraque Hossain, son of former Dhaka mayor and Tabith Awal, son of business tycoon Abdul Awal Mintoo, are likely to get the party nominations to contest the DSCC and DNCC polls respectively as party’s mayoral candidate. – Staff Reporter
