16 houses damaged in Sylhet landslide

Sylhet district administration on Saturday asked 16 families to evacuate their houses as earth of a hillock in city fall on the houses due to heavy raining.Locals said that huge chunks of mud of a hillock at Hazaribag in Shahi Eidgah area in the city fallen on a shanty located at the bottom of the hillock early in the morning due to heavy rainfall that turned 16 houses of the shanty risky for living.
Sylhet deputy commissioner Shahidul Islam visited the spot in the afternoon and asked the residents of the affected houses to evacuate.
Shahidul Islam told The New Nation ‘The owners built the houses illegally along the hillock already asked to shift their houses and the forest department officials also ordered taking necessary steps to stop landslide.’
Bachchu Miah, owner of a house affected in the landslide, told The New Nation that he shifted the valuables of his house to one of his relative’s house after the incident.
