18-party postpones blockade for Friday, Saturday

Dhaka – The BNP-led 18-party alliance on Thursday postponed its ongoing nonstop countrywide blockade for Friday and Saturday considering public sufferings. BNP chairperson’s adviser Osman Farruk came up with the announcement in a video message sent to the media people from an undisclosed location.
In the message, the BNP leader said the opposition combine has decided to suspend the road-rail-waterway blockade for the two days considering the sufferings of country’s people.
He, however, said the blockade will continue from Sunday as well.
In its last-ditch effort to resist the January-5 ‘one-sided’ polls, the opposition alliance enforced the nonstop blockade on January 1.
However, the election was held on the scheduled day amid low voter turnout and massive violence that left over 20 people killed.
The 18-party alliance has been on a nonstop movement since the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 10th parliamentary polls on November 25. – UNB
