19 maoists killed in encounter in southern India

Malkangiri – At least 19 Maoists were killed in a major encounter in Malkangiri, at Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border, early on Monday. Two policemen were also injured, reports NDtv.The security forces attacked a Maoist camp, about 10 km into Malkangiri, where at least 50-60 Maoists had gathered for a meeting, an official said.
Police say they were tipped off about a meeting of top Maoists officials in the area following which the search and combing operations were on since late last night.
Ammunition and weapons including three AK-47 and self-loading rifles (SLR) were seized from the spot. Police suspect that senior Maoists cadre could be among the dead.
Malkangiri is one of the Maoist-affected regions of the state.
