2 more including ‘informant’ shown arrested in Mitu murder case

Police arrested two more people from Bakulia of Chittagong early Tuesday in connection with the murder of Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.The arrestees were Ehtesham Haque Bhola, 38 and Mohammad Monir, 40.
Bhola had earlier been named by police as one of 7 individuals who took part in the killing mission. It is thought that he supplied the firearm that was used to murder Mitu, although not present on the spot at the time of the killing. He is said to be locally known as a ‘police informant’.
There have been media reports that Bhola, among others, was detained on June 21. Family members alleged they had approached the police with a missing complaint but were not entertained.
Mohammad Kamruzzaman, assistant commissioner of Detective Branch police and also investigation officer of the case, said police arrested them from the area early in the morning.
Police also recovered a pistol and a revolver from them.
Miscreants gunned down SP Babul’s wife Mahmuda Khanam at GEC intersection of the port city of Chittagong on the morning of June 5 as she went there to drop her son Mahir Akhter, 7, for his school bus.
