Police arrested two muggers along with looted Tk 18 lakh of a British-American Tobacco Company agent in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district on Friday.
The arrested were identified as Saiful Alam, 35, son of Chamak Ali of Muktirgaon village, and Salahuddin, 32, son of Aklu Miah of Shimultala village in the upazila. On February 2, snatchers took away Tk 22 lakh of the tobacco company agent ‘Maula Bakhs-Karim Bakhs’ in the bus stand area of Chhatak municipality while its employee Pintu was going to Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd for depositing the money.
Acting on secret information, a team of Chhatak Police Station, led by its officer-in-charge Shahjalal Munshi, conducted a drive at the house of Saiful in the early hours and arrested him.
Following information gleaned from Saiful, the law enforcers recovered Tk 956,400 and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw used in the mugging from the house of Salahuddin when he was also arrested.
Later, police conducted another drive at the house of the mastermind of the incident, Mizan, son of Taslim Master of the Muktirgaon, around 11 am and recovered Tk 841,000 more. However, Mizan managed to evade the arrest. – UNB
