Two schoolgirls drowned in a pond at Baluchar in the city on Saturday
afternoon. The deceased were identified as Mili Begam,11, daughter of
Dulal Ahmed of the area, and Julekha Begum,12, daughter of Jahangir
Miah.
Mili and Julekha are students of class IV and V respectively of
Baluchar Government Primary School.
Police and locals said four to five students, including Mili and
Julekha, were taking bath in a pond adjacent to their school after
returning from a football tournament at about 5.00pm.
Mili and Julekha suddenly went deep under water. Later, locals
rescued Mili and sent her to Sylhet Osmany Medical Hospital where
on-duty doctors declared her dead. The body of Julekha floated in the
