Two Shibir activists killed in Jhenidah “gunfight”

Dhaka – Two Shibir activists have been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Jheniah district. The gunfight took place at around 2.30 am on Friday at a field of Tetulbaria village under Naldanga union of Sadar upazila.
The decased were identified as Shaid Al Mahmud (25), son of Rajab Ali at Badanpur village under Jhenidah Sadar upazila, Anisur Rahman(26), son of Sabder Hossain at Jugia vatapara village under Kushtia Sadar upazila.
Shaid Al Mahmud’s family had claimed that men identified themselves as police officers had whisked him away from their home on the night of June, 13. But Jhenidah police rejected the allegation they had no information regarding Mahmud’s detention or arrest.
Shoid Al Mahmud had passed Fazil from Jhenidah Siddikia Alia Madrasa and Anisur Rahman had passed Diploma Engineering degree from Jhenidah Polytechnic Institute.
Hasan Hafizur Rahman, OC of Jhenidah Sadar Police Station, said, “A gang of criminals opened fire targeting the police when they were patrolling in the area. In retaliation, police fired back that left

Unb adds: -Two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between their cohorts and police at Tentulbaria in sadar upazila early Friday.Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of police, Jhenaidah, said a gang of criminals were taking preparation to commit crime on Tentulbaria-Naldanga road around 2:30 am.When a patrol team of police went there, the criminals hurled 4/5 crude bombs and fired shots targeting them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.At one stage, two gang members were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their other associates managed to flee.Later, after the gunfight that lasted for 20 minutes, police recovered the bodies of Shahid Al Mahmud, 27, son of Rajab Ali of Sadar upazila and Anisur Rahman, 29, son of Sabdar Ali, hailing from Kushtia district.Altaf Hossain, superintendent of Jhenidah Police, said among the two Shibir men, Anisur was a former president of Jhenidah Polytechnic Institute Shibir unit.Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were also injured in the incident.Police also recovered one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet, five bombs and six sharp weapons from the spot.The bodies were taken to Sadar Hospital morgue.However, the family members of the Shibir men claimed that plainclothes police picked up Shaheed and Anisur from their residences in Jhenidah sadar upazila and Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on June 13 and June 16 respectively.
