22 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Joypurhat

Law enforces in overnight separate drives until Wednesday morning arrested 22 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and pro-Jamaat student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir from different places of five upazilas of the district.

Sources at the office of superintendent of police, Joypurhat, said several teams of police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members jointly conducted separate drives in five upazilas from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday morning and arrested the 22 — six people from Sadar, seven from Panchbibi, two from Kalai, four from Khetlal and three from Akkelpur upazilas.

The 22 Jamaat-Shibir activists were held for their alleged involvement in subversive activities, including removing fishplates from rail trucks, vandalising and torching vehicles, houses and shops and blasting bombs in the five upazilas during the blockade sponsored by the 18-party opposition alliance. -UNB, Joypurhat
