3 cops among 5 interrogated in gold smuggling case

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday interrogated five people, including three policemen, in a gold smuggling case.
ACC investigation officer and deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy quizzed them on remand from 11 am to 5 pm at the ACC head office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.The ACC questioned sub-inspector (SI) of Rampura Police Station Manjurul Islam, constables Wahidul Islam and Akash Chowdhury, police source Mahfuzul Alam Rony and driver Sujit Sikder.
ACC sources said a police team from Rampua Police Station in a drive seized 235 bars of gold in the capital on March 13 last acting on a tip-off given by source Rony. But they in collusion with each other swindled 165 bars of gold while the remaining bars were handed over to the police station.
Later, a case was filed against five people on April 7 last.
On April 1 last, the Detective Branch (DB) of police recovered 149 bars from Rampura police and arrested four people, including three cops in this regard. Officer-in-charge of the police station Kripa Sindhu Bala was also suspended. – UNB
