3 dacoits killed in Satkhira ‘shootout’

Three suspected dacoits were killed in a ‘shootout’ with members of
the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the Sundarbans in
Shaymnagar upazila on Thursday morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as Amjad, ringleader of ‘Amjad
Bahini’, and Mahbub alias Saija, ringleader of ‘Saija Bahini’.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-8 launched a drive at Kalagachhi of Satkhira
range of the mangrove forest around 6:45am, Superintendent of Police
of Satkhira Jahangir Hossain told UNB.
Sensing their presence, Jahangir Hossain said, the gang of pirates
opened fire on the law enforcers who also retaliated triggering the
‘shootout’.
The three ‘pirates’ were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
Around 100 rounds of bullet were exchanged during the hour-long
battle, Jahangir added.
Contacted, Tareq Biswas, officer-in-charge of Shaymnagar Police
Station, confirmed UNB about the incident.
The law enforcers also recovered 13 firearms, two air guns, one
magazine and a large amount of bullets from the spot.
He said the elite force recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar
Hospital morgue for autopsy.
