3 outlaws to die for murder in Bagerhat

A court here on Wednesday sentenced three members of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML) to death and another to life term imprisonment for killing a fellow party man in 2005. The condemned convicts are-Shahid Sheikh, 37, son of Mannan Sheikh, Yeasin, 31, son of Jalal Supervisor of Kumarkhali village in Mongla upazila and Yeasin Hawladar, 29, son of Komlai village in Rampal upazila. Besides, Masum Gazi, 31, son of Sobhan Gazi of Kumarkhali village in Mongla upazila, was awarded life term imprisonment. The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment. The court also acquitted another accused Sardar Masudur Rahman alias Masud. According to the prosecution, Mizan alias Nizam, a member of Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML) and son of Safiz uddin of Kimarkhali village, was hacked to death following intra-party rivalry at Mirakhali Beribadh in Rampal upazila on June 7, 2005. Sayed Sardar, brother of the victim, filed a case with Rampal Police Station on the following day. Mohamamd Afsar Uddin, sub-inspector of CID police, submitted chargesheet against five people on November 29, 2006. After examining the records and witnesses Bagerhat Session Judge SM Solaiman pronounced the verdict. – UNB
