30 vehicles damaged by pickets in Chandpur

Pickets vandalised at least 30 vehicles on different roads of Chandpur district during the daylong nationwide hartal called by the BNP-led 18-party alliance today (Wednesday) morning.Witnesses said hartal supporters blocked the Chandpur-Comilla Highway in Mohamaya and Ghoserghat areas by placing logs at about 6.15am, disrupting traffic.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control breaking the barricades at about 7.00am.
Pickets also blocked the same road torching tryes in Baburhat area.
M Amir Jafar, superintendent of police of Chandpur, said police rushed to the spot receiving information of vehicle vandalism by hartal supporters.
Witnesses said pickets damaged at lest 30 vehicles including trucks, pickup vans and CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Mohamaya, Ghoserghat and Baburhat of the district in absence of law enforcers.
None was arrested in this connection as of filing this report at about 10.00am.
