An Indian citizen was arrested at Mangalkata Bazar in sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday for entering Bangladesh territory illegally by crossing border.The arrestee identified as M Mozammel Ali, son of Raif Uddin, hails from Burundanga village in Khatigora thana of Cachar district under Indian state of Assam.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police sources said Mozammel illegally entered Bangladesh territory through Tekerghat LC border point in Tahirpur upazila on May 25 and was trying to hire coal workers of the country from Mangalkata Bazar.
At one stage, coal workers caught him for realising their dues and brought him to local BGB camp at about 12.00pm.
Lieutenant Colonel AKM Maksudul Hoque, commander of BGB 8, said the arrested Indian national was handed over to sadar thana along with Rs. 2,000.
Officer-in-charge Abdul Awal Chowdhury of sadar police station confirmed the incident.
