Plainclothes police arrested four people, including a union parishad member, busting a gambling den at Ruparpara village in Sribardi upazila of the district early Tuesday.The arrestees were identified as Fazlur Rahman, a member of Kharia Kajir Char union parishad, Abu Saleh, Shaheb Ali and Almas Miah, residents of the village.
Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Detective Branch (DB) of police, said acting on a tip-off, a team of the force arrested the four red handed while gambling in the middle of the night.
The arrestees were produced before a court at noon, which sent them to jail.
Law enforcers also seized some gambling materials from the spot.
