Two pirates held with firearms in Khulna

A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested two members of pirate gang ‘Murtaja Bahini’ after one hour’s gunfight on the western bank of the Shibsa River of Sundarbans early Tuesday.The arrested were identified as Abu Bakar, second -in-command of Murtaja Bahini, and his associate Yeasin Ali.
Lieutenant commander Muhiuddin, officer of Coast Guard (West Zone), said on secret information that some pirates were staying on the western bank of the Shibsa River, a team of Coast Guard conducted a drive in the area in the little hours of Tuesday.
Sensing the presence of Coast Guard, the pirates started firing on
the Coast Guard members who also retaliated by shooting fire that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, members of Murtaja Bahini retreated.
None was killed or injured during the gun battle that continued for half an hour.
Later, the Coast Guard arrested Abu Bakkar and Yeasin along with firearms from the spot.
Abu Bakar is wanted by police in 12 cases filed with different police stations of Khulna district, said Coast Guard.(SourUNB Khulna)
