30,550 hectares brought under jute in Magura

A total of 30,550 hectares of land have been brought under jute
cultivation in all four upazilas of the district in the current
season.
Agriculture officer Subrata Kumar Chakrabarti of the district said of
the total land, jute has been cultivated on 9,000 hectares in sadar
upazila, 7,900 hectares in Sreepur upazila, 2,950 hectares in Salikha
upazila and 10,700 hectares in Mohammadpur upazila.
This year, a target was fixed to produce 3,50,533 bales of jute in the district.
To fulfill the target successfully, the Department of Agriculture
Extension has provided training to the jute farmers and distributed
400 kilograms of high yielding variety seeds of jute free of cost.
The farmers of the district are hopeful of bumper production of the
golden fibre.
