Elephant stampede tribal woman in Sherpur

A tribal woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Boro Gazni
in Jhenigati upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mandira Sangma, 28, wife of Hadiram
Nath Marak of the area.
Locals said a herd of marauding elephants invaded Boro Gazni village
in the upazila at about 1:30 am.
Villagers made an attempt to drive away the elephants by torching lamps.
At one stage, a wild elephant pounced on Mandira and crushed her to
death by trampling at about 4.00am.
Later locals recovered the body.
Jhenigati upazila nirbahi officer Mozammel Hossain, who upon
information visited the spot, confirmed the incident.
