31 shops gutted in N’ganj, Chandpur

At least 16 shops were gutted in a fire, which broke out in the Hawkers’ Market at Deobhog in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.Sources at the local fire service said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shop of the market near railway lines at about 5am and soon it engulfed adjoining shops.
On information, two fire fighting units of the district rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after half an hour of frantic efforts.
The affected shop owners initially estimated the loss from fire at about Tk. 50 lakh.
UNB from Chandpur adds:  At least 11 shops were gutted in a fire at a bazar in Faridganj upazila early Tuesday.
At least 15 people also received burn injuries while extinguishing the blaze.
Local people said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a petrol shop at about 11pm and soon it engulfed nearby shops.
On information, a fire fighting unit from the town rushed in and doused the blaze after several hours of their frantic efforts with the help of locals.
The extent of losses from the fire could go up to Tk 50 lakh, claimed the victims.
