Police arrested four local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from the city’s Gopibagh area on Wednesday night.The arrested were identified as Sanaullah, 40, Dr M Nesaruddin, 46, Atiqur Rahman, 35, and Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan, 40.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Motijheel Police Station raided a house in the area around 10pm and arrested the Jamaat leaders while they were holding a clandestine meeting to carry out subversive acts, police said.
Contacted, deputy commissioner (Motijheel) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ashraful Islam said the arrested used to provide financial support for carrying out Jamaat’s activities.
He also said members of Detective Branch of police were conducting raids on various areas, based on information given by them, to arrest some other Jamaat leaders. – UNB
