In the wake of opposition BNP’s threat to wage a tough movement to realise its demand, Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday said no movement could bring any amicable solution.

“It’ll be useless to wage a movement as it’ll yield no positive result,” he said. Ashraf, also the LGRD minister, said this while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the graves of those who embraced martyrdom with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975 at Banani Graveyard.
Syed Ashraf said Awami League is pledge-bound to build Bangladesh based on the spirit of the Liberation War and suggested all political parties to nurture the ethos of the independence war.
“We must turn the grief of August 15 into strength,” he added.
Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Thursday urged the main opposition BNP to get ready for taking part in the next general election under an interim government.
“The next election will be held under an interim government. Prepare for the polls. We’ll accept the people’s verdict whatever it is,” he said.
Nasim made the call while addressing a milad mahfil and condolence meeting arranged by Krishak League in the city’s Kalabagan area, marking the National Mourning Day.
He hoped that people will bring Awami League back to power again considering the massive development activities carried out by the current regime.
Nasim, also a former Home Minister, said the next general election will be held in time as per the constitution. About the dialogue with the opposition regarding the polls-time administration, the senior AL leader said his party will negotiate with people, not anyone else.
“Why should we hear the lectures of foreigners and other local elements about reaching a compromise? Why do we need to come to a compromise? The compromise will only be with the people of Bangladesh,” he added. – UNB
