42 injured in Thakurgaon BGB-voter clashes

At least 42 people, including security personnel, were injured when voterts clashed with army and BGB personnel in polling stations during Upazila elections at Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi.
Three Border Guard Bangladesh personnel injured in the clashes were admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
Polling remained suspended for two hours in three polling stations after the clashes, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Biswas said.A BGB member assaulted a voter in Barabarhi polling station leading to the clashes, witnesses said.
The clashes later spread to nearby centres.
The army and BGB members baton-charged the voters, after they pelted the security personnel with brickbats.
DC Biswas said a misunderstanding had led to the clashes.
The BGB and army personnel later controlled the situation, he said.
Senior officials of army and BGB visited the spot after the clashes.
Ashraful, a voter of Barabarhi polling station, alleged BNP-backed chairman candidate Abu Hayat Nurunnabi was trying to influence the army since his younger brother was a former army officer.
