48-hr hartal against killing, abduction, missing from Wednesday

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a 48-hour hartal in Dhaka and Khulna divisions from Wednesday, protesting the killings, ‘enforced disappearances, abduction’ and arrest of its leaders by the government.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Monday night that they would enforce the shutdown in all districts of the two divisions, including the capital and Khulna city, also demanding the release of detained alliance leaders and activists. He said the hartal will begin at 6am on Wednesday and end at 6am on Friday.
Meanwhile, the local chapter of the 20-party alliance called a 36-hour hartal in Chittagong division from Tuesday protesting the arrest of its leaders and activists.
The shutdown will continue simultaneously with the indefinite transport strike enforced by the BNP-led combine.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on January 5 called the countrywide indefinite blockade as the government did not allow her party and allies to hold protest rallies in the capital.
On Monday, Khaleda Zia said the ongoing indefinite transport blockade would continue until further announcement. – UNB
