5 train bogies torched, Station Master suspended

CHITTAGONG: Unidentified miscreants torched five bogies of an express train running on Chittagong-Dhaka route at Chittagong Railway station early Tuesday.Confirming the news, Railway Eastern Region assistant director (public relations) told banglanews, “Some miscreants set fire to the bogies of ‘Subarna Express’ around 4:45am after it was taken to the station for its departure at about 7 am.”
On information, firefighters rushed in and doused the blaze.
Two people were held in the connection, he added.
Besides, a five-member probe body was formed to look into the incident, the railway officer said.
Railway Eastern divisional commercial officer Rukanuzzaman told banglanews, “The inter-city train left Chittagong station for Dhaka around 08:45am leaving the five burnt bodies.”
Mahbubur Rahman, master of Chittagong railways station, and three guards were suspended for ignorance in discharging duties.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Divisional Railway Transportation Officer Jakir Hossain said, “The decision was taken after miscreants torched five compartments of Suborna Express Train at the station on Tuesday morning.”
Two persons-Mithu Mia and Asgar Mohammad Ehsan—were detained in this connection and petrol-full bottles were found from their possession.
Besides, a 4-member probe body was formed and was asked to submit report as soon as possible.
