54th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla today

Dhaka – The 54th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque is being observed today (Wednesday) with due respect, unb news agency has reported.
Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque, popularly known as Sher-e-Bangla, died on April 27, 1962.Various socio-political organisations, including ruling Awami League, have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
The programmes include placing wreaths and offering fateha at the grave of the great leader, milad and discussions in the city and elsewhere across the country.
Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque was an eminent Bengali nationalist, social democrat, politician and statesman during the first half of the 20th century.
After the end of the colonial rule, he became one of the leading statesmen of East Pakistan, serving as its Chief Minister and Governor, and was instrumental in pushing through the first major land reform in the subcontinent.
