Report on Khaleda ‘killing 42 during blockade’ April 16

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Monday) deferred the deadline to April 16 for submitting an investigation report in the case filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and three others on charges of killing 42 people in the violence during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s shutdown and blockade programmes.Other accused persons of the case are BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Khaleda Zia’s advisers Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Emajuddin Ahmed.
On February 2, AB Siddique, President of pro-Awami League organisation Jananetri Parishad filed the case with the CMM Court against the accused.
Earlier, after recording the statement of the complainant, the court had directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station to investigate the case and submit a probe report to the court by March 1.
Magistrate Md Asaduzzman Nur of the CMM Court extended the deadline on Monday, as the OC of Gulshan Police Station could not submit report on the day.
The case statement says that the BNP-led coalition activists blasted petrol bombs during the frequent shutdowns and continuous blockade, killing 42 people and injuring hundreds more between January 5 and February 1. – Court Correspondent
