68 Manikganj students hospitalised for stomach pain

Some 68 schoolgirls were admitted to hospital with stomach pain in Shibaloy Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.Sources said a student–Sonali Akter–of Teota Academy of Shibaloy, was hospitalized with stomach pain at 11:15am. A total of 68 students were taken to the Upazila Health Complex till filing the report.

Officer-in-Charge of Shibaloy Police Station Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Hospital authority could not identify any reason behind the stomach pain.

But, it suspected that the students might have affected with ‘Mass Psychogenic Illness’.

Deputy Commissioner Masud Karim and Civil Surgeon Siddershwar Majumder visited the hospital.

Mass psychogenic illness (MPI), also called mass sociogenic illness, is “the rapid spread of illness signs and symptoms affecting members of a cohesive group, originating from a nervous system disturbance involving excitation, loss or alteration of function, whereby physical complaints that are exhibited unconsciously have no corresponding organic aetiology.banglanews24.com
