7 alleged currency forgers, one robber held in city

Detectives in separate drives arrested seven people in connection with fake currency note trading and one suspected robber from different areas in the city on Monday night.
Law enforcers also recovered various types of ornaments weight around 41 tolas around Tk 11.50 lakh and equipment used for dismantling houses from the robber’s possession, while fake currency worth around Tk 2.78 lakh from the forged currency traders.The fake currency traders were identified as Md Alauddin, Md Yunus Mia, Md Altaf Hossain, Md Ranju, Md Badal Hossain, Md Miltan Sheikh and Yusuf Ali Hawlader, while the robber was identified as Md Rafiqul Islam.
Briefing to reporters at DMP media centre on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner (DB-East) Md Mahbub Alam said a DB team conducted a drive at near Gulistan Nattya Manch at night and caught red-handed seven forged currency traders and recovered the fake currency.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested syndicate members revealed that they had been involved in the illegal trading for last several years, the DC Mahbub said and adding that at least 15 syndicates are involved in such kind of illegal trading.
In another drive, the detectives conducted another drive at Satish Shaha Road of Genderia and arrested the robber Rafiqul Islam at about 3:15 am.
The Detectives also recovered various types of gold ornaments, including 59 gold chains, 17 finger rings, four bangles, four bracelets, four nose pins, 23 ear rings and 13 lockets as well as several equipment used for dismantling houses from the robber’s possession.
Rafique revealed that he was involved in a number of robbery incidents in houses and shops of the capital. – News Desk
