7 held over killing of Jubo League leader in tense Naogaon

Dhaka – Police here on Monday arrested seven people in connection with the murder of a local Jubo League leader over establishing supremacy to take advantage of a pond in Karaj village of Raninagar upazila in Naogaon.The victim was identified as Azim Uddin, general secretary of Jubo League Kaligram union unit.

The detainees were identified as Abdul Aziz, 33, Masum Ali, 34, Rahim Uddin, 32 Alam Hossain, 28, Shahdat Hossain, 40, Miltan Khandakar, 38, Soheb Khandakar, 28, all of them local leaders and activists of Jubo League and Chhatra League.

Victim’s brother filed a case with Raninagar Police Station accusing 26 people including Shahadat Hossain, upazila Awami League leader, in the afternoon over the killing.

According to the case statement, Shahadat and his supporters went to occupy a pond in Karaj village on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the local people including Azim restricted them triggering a clash between the two groups.At one stage, Shahadat’s men hacked Azim with sharp weapons killing him on the spot.UNB
