Seven people were killed and 42 others injured in separate road accidents in Kishoreganj, Manikganj, Joypurhat and Faridpur districts on Monday.
In Kishoreganj, two people were killed and 25 others injured as a night coach plunged into a roadside ditch at Mirzapur in Pakundia upazila in the early hours.The deceased were identified as Abdul Hai, 60, of Kendua in Netrakona, and Mamun, 35, of Nizambagh in Gouripur of Mymensingh.Officer-in-charge of Pakundia Police Station Zakir Rabbani said the Tarail-bound bus of ‘Isha Kha Paribahan’ from Dhaka skidded off the road and fell into the ditch around 5am as its driver lost control over the steering, killing two passengers on the spot and injuring others.On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured were rushed to different hospitals, including Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, he said.In Manikganj, two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured when a Barisal-bound ‘Surjamukhi Paribahan’ bus hit the bike on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Tepra bus stand in Shibalaya upazila in the morning.The deceased were identified as Baharul Islam Imon, 20, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Boali village, and Sumon Khan, 23, son of late Sakhawat Hossain of Jamduara village in the upazila.Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene.In Joypurhat, two people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup at Punat in Kalai upazila in the afternoon.The deceased were identified as Alal Sheikh, 35, son of Jamir Uddin Sheikh of Shutrail village in Khetlal of the district, and pickup driver Shahin, 22, son of Minu Miah of Pakundia in Kishoreganj.Police super of Joypurhat Hamidul Alam said the two vehicles collided head-on Bogra-Joypurhat highway around 12:30pm, killing Alal and Shahin on the spot.On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured were rushed to Kalai Upazila Health Complex from where one was shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.In Faridpur, a man was killed and another injured when a truck hit a motorcycle on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Bagat in Madhukhali upazila at noon.The deceased was identified as Rubel, 30 of Bazar Kandi area in the upazila. -UNB
