BWP to promote climate change adaptation thru capacity building

The 13th annual general meeting (AGM) of Bangladesh Water Partnership on Saturday was told its activities in the coming year would concentrate more on promotion of climate change adaptation through capacity building, help improve sustainable water management and climate change adaptation through schools and area-based organisations of BWP.
The meeting held with Engr Shahidul Hassan, its president, in the chair reviewed a run-down of BWP activities of the yerar 2014 and adopted the annual report presented by secterary general Engr Tauhidul Anwar Khan.The meeting decided to constitute a new committee of the organisation with with vice president Khandaker Azharul Haq as president and Engr Moshiur Rahman as secretary general. BWP’s institutional members and representatives of its area-based partners from different districts of Bangladesh took part in the meeting held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council auditorium.
In addition to its regular activity – training of trainers – on integrated water resources management and CEGIS and organise training workshops along with representatives from governmental and non-governmental organisations by the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM).
During 2016 BWP will also conduct a case study on the feasibility of rainwater harvesting in urban areas and a study on the effects of climate change on water and food security in selected coastal deltas and its poritive economic impact.
The outgoing president and secretary general of BWP thanked all the memebrs for their cooperation extended to them in running the organisation that is mandated to help the implementation of the right policies, principles and measures by the appropriate authorities including the government and NGOs and involving the people at the grass-roots for better water management in Bangladesh. – News Desk
