At least eight persons including two Brac University studdents were killed and about ten others injured in three road accidents in Sirajganj, Pancharagh and natore on Friday.
bdnews24.com reported: Two students of BRAC University were killed on Friday in a crash involving a bus and two motorcycles while riders were racing with each other on the highway in Sirajganj, police said.Two others were also injured in the mishap took place around 8pm on the Sirajganj-Pabna highway in front of the Shahjadpur Fire Service station.
The deceased were named as ‘Anik’, 22, and ‘Akash’, 22 – final-year students of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the private university.
Their injured friends – ‘Palash’ and ‘Momin’ – are also students of the university.
They came here to attend a wedding at Shahjadpur’s Chorachitulia village, Palash’s father Ruhul Amin told bdnews24.com.
The accident occurred when they were returning from Baghabarhi river port along with 11 other friends on five motorcycles, he said.
Shahjadpur Police Station OC Hasan Shamim Iqbal said two motorcycles at high speed lost control and the two-wheelers rammed against each other. An oncoming bus collided head-on with both bikes.
Anik and Akash died on the spot, he said.
Palash was admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital and Momin was sent to Dhaka.
It was not immediately known if there was highway police vigil on the road when the accident happened.
Three persons were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Syedpur crossing on the Dhaka-Natore Highway here Friday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Masud Alam, 32, and the identities of others could not be known immediately.
Quoting witnesses’ police said the accident took place when a locally-assembled vehicle “Laguna” collided head-on with a Dhaka-
bound bus in the area at around 7.30 am, leaving six passengers
of the Laguna injured.
Among the wounded, one died on the way to hospital and two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at Natore General Hospital, said Highway Police’s Sub-Inspector Fazlur Rahman.
Of the injured, one was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while two others were being treated at the general hospital.
Residential Physician of the general hospital Dr Abul Kalam Azad said the injured are now out of danger.
In yet another accident Three motorcyclists were killed in a fatal road accident at Jagdal on the Panchagarh- Tentulia highway under Sadar upazila of Panchagarh in the small hours of today, police sources said.
The accident occurred when a Tentulia bound motorcycle from Panchagarh collided head-on with a truck at around 1 am.
Motorcyclists Salimul Haque, 48, of village Goaljhar and Salah Uddin, 45, of village Thutapakuri under Panchagarh Sadar upazila were killed on the spot while Khorshed Alam, 55, of village Basuniapara in the same upazila was seriously injured.
Police with the help of the local people immediately took Khorshed to Panchagarh District Modernized Hospital where he succumbed later.
The killer truck with its driver and helper managed to escape the scene.
Confirming deaths of three motorcyclists in the accident, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar Thana Humayun Kabir said a case was filed in this connection.
