8 Jamaat-Shibir men on 2-day remand for attacking cops in Rajshahi

A court here on Wednesday placed eight Jamaat-Shibir men on a two-day remand each in a case filed for attacking police in Shalbagan area of the city on Tuesday.Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Hakim Khaled Khan passed the order after police produced them before his court seeking a seven-day remand in the case on Wednesday evening.Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Shah Mukhdum Police Station, said sub-inspector Jahangir Alam filed a case against some 110 people, including 50 identified and 60 unidentified BNP-Jamaat men, early Wednesday on charges of attacking police in Shalbagan area of the city on Tuesday morning.Police arrested eight Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas under Shah Mukhdum thana on Tuesday night. The arrestees were Rabiul Islam,18, Masud Rana,18, Mostafizur Rahman,18, Jony,18, Nayar Ali,42, Ramjan Ali,26, Sohel Rana,20, and Shahidul Islam,20. Earlier, two policemen were injured in a clash between the hartal supporters and police in Shalbagan area of the city on Tuesday morning. The clash ensued when police tried to prevent them from bringing out a procession. The injured policemen were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. District unit BNP called the hartal on Monday protesting the death of a BNP activist in police firing during a clash between police and BNP activists. -UNB, Rajshahi
