8 killed, 3 kidnapped in 20 days in Narayanganj

Narayanganj city virtually turned into a city of murder as eight people were killed in last 20 days and three others kidnapped.City dwellers are extremely worried over the killing and kidnapping while police claimed that the law and order in the city is normal.
Police has been able to arrest the killers in a number of cases.
On July 6, some 10-12 people in the disguise of DB police picked up expelled Narayanganj district Jubo League publicity secretary Zahirul Islam Bhuiyan Parvez from Gulshan 2 circle in the capital.
The same day (July 6), Parvez’s wife lodged diary with Gulshan police station.
Parvez is an accused in the sensational Tanvir Muhammad Twaki murder case.
Earlier, on June 15, another suspected accused in Twaki murder case Yusuf Ahmed Liton was picked up in a similar way by some people in the guise of RAB from in front of Narayanganj district jail.
Some 10-12 plainclothes people in two microbuses picked up Liton at gun point.
In the evening of the same day (June 15), 7-8 uniformed people picked up Narayanganj-5 MP Nasim Osman’s son Azmeri Osman’s close associate Sultan Shawkat alias Bhromor. Bhromor’s wife filed a GD with Keraniganj police station in this connection.
In view of the kidnappings one after another, family members of ruling party leaders and workers in Narayanganj expressed their concern.
Narayanganj district Chhatra League president Safayet Alam Sunny’s mother Syeda Nilufa Alam said that after the kidnapping of three people, no one can say anything about their whereabouts.
Sony’s mother said she lives in anxiety whenever her son goes out.
Narayanganj city Jubo League president Sahadat Hossain Sajnu’s wife Upama Kamran said Parvez of Juba League, grand alliance worker Liton and Bhromor were kidnapped.
Now she does not want to hear any such news about her husband, she said.
On July 22, a class V student Mahbub was killed brutally in Araihajar of Narayanganj. Killers cut his nose and ear, and gouged out his eyes.
On July 19, Ashraful Islam Sagar allegedly killed his wife Lata Begum Anna with a sharp weapon at Siaikhola area in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj district.
Ashraful has been absconding after the incident.
Police recovered a half decomposed body of a businessman named Anwarul Islam Liton from Rupganj in Narayanganj on July 18.
On July 9, a class IX student of Pagla High School Nazmul Hossain, 17, of Fatullah upazila was hacked to death.
On July 7, Anju Hossain, 35, who returned from Singapore, was killed mysteriously after drinking liquour at Kashipur Bholail in Fatullah upazilla.
Police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a pond in Bhuigarh residential area of Fatullah on July 4.
On July 3, a 2nd year student of Sinha School and College Mousumi Akhtar, 18, of Rupganj upazila was beaten and strangulated to death following dispute over a love affair.
Expressing concern over the eight killing incidents, the civil society called the incidents a dangerous omen and blamed the Narayanganj police administration for their failure to maintain law and order.
Anti-terrorism Twaki Mancha convener Rafiur Rabbi said that in a society where killers are not identified and tried, it is difficult to stop killing, kidnap or robbery.
He said when the State remains silent over killing and kidnapping, civil society members are killed and kidnapped. If the State stands against such incidents, the killers become afraid and incidents of killing are stopped.
Anti-terrorism Twaki Mancha member secretary and Narayanganj press club president Poet Halim Azad said those who killed Twaki are yet to be tried.
If the killers of Twaki were tried, such incidents of killing one after another would not take place, he said, adding that police are not arresting the killers.
“Such frequent killings wre taking place due to the failure of the administration,” Halim Azad said. (Source: UNB)
