80 BNP-Jamaat men sued for polls violence in Bogra

Bogura, Jan 2 – A case was filed on Wednesday against some 80 leaders and activists of BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami over violence during the 11th parliamentary elections in Kushumbi area of Sherpur Upazila in the district. Local Awami League leader Shahidul Islam filed the case naming 45 BNP-Jamaat men on charges of rigging votes, occupying polling stations, attacking voters and casting fake votes.
The accused include former general secretary of upazila BNP Shahidul Islam Bablu, Sherpur municipality BNP organising secretary and former mayor Swadhin Kumar Kundu, municipality councillor Firoz Ahmed Jewel and Jamaat leader Abdul Hai.
The plaintiff alleged that the accused launched an attack on Tunipara Govt Primary School polling centre during the voting on Sunday.
Inspector (Investigation) of Sherpur Police Station Bulbul Islam said they could not arrest anyone as all the accused have been on the run. – UNB
