A day after meeting with her party’s policymakers, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to have another meeting with the top leaders of the 18-party alliance on Monday night to discuss the country’s latest political situation and work out their movement strategies. The meeting is scheduled to start at the BNP chief’s Gulshan office around 9pm, BNP chairperson’s adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu told UNB on Sunday.
BNP sources said Khaleda will discuss with the alliance leaders the country’s overall political situation, city corporation polls, next general election and finalise the opposition’s movement strategy to force the government concede to its demand for restoration of the caretaker government system.
Earlier, on Saturday night, Khaleda had over an hour-long meeting with her party’s standing committee members.
Two BNP policymakers who attended the meeting said they did not finalise any action programme before Ramadan as planned earlier to put pressure on the government to reinstate the caretaker government system.
They, however, said the opposition will finalise its next course of action observing the results of the four city corporation polls slated for June 15.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia asked the party senior leaders to work hard so that all the BNP-backed candidates can win the polls.
She also distributed responsibilities among the senior leaders to oversee the electioneering of the candidates and overall polls environment and the government’s attitude as it will determine the nature of the opposition’s movement, meeting sources said.
The BNP policymakers also decided that the party will use the time before and during Ramadan to organise the party and strengthen its activities. (Source: UNB)
