Code of conduct of city polls being violated: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Monday claimed that the code of conduct is being violated in four City Corporation Polls. The chief election commissioner came up with the assertion while talking on the allegations about violation of election code of conduct on Monday.
The CEC stated the commission’s firm position on the issue and said, “We are trying to control the situation.”
He said, “The EC will take legal actions against the violation of rules. No one will be given extra privilege on that matter.”
Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed rejected the demand for army deployment in city corporation polls as he said “candidates assured me that law and order is not so dire as to deploy the army”.
The main opposition BNP demanded army deployment in city corporation polls.
CEC also talked about the recent allegations of violating EC code by Petrobangla Chairman, Hossen Monsur at Rajshahi City Corporation.
He said, “The returning officer of Rajshahi informed me about the matter and the EC issued a show-cause notice to Petrobangla Chief. We are waiting for his reply.”
EC has taken adequate steps to create a better law and order environment for polls in the four city corporation, the CEC added.  (Source: banglanews24.com)
