Campaigning of the candidates of Sylhet City Corporation election is
now on top gear all over the city. Ignoring heavy rainfall, central
leaders supporting the 14 and 18 party candidates are now making door
to door visits and asking for votes from the electors.
SCC election is scheduled for June 15. Present Mayor of SCC Bodor
Uddin Ahmed Kamran who is also city president of ruling Awami League
from 14 parties, former president of Sylhet city unit BNP Ariful Haque
Chowdhury is contesting here as mayor from the 18-party coalition. On
the other hand, Salah Uddin Rimon, Jubo Dal who is already suspended
from the party is also contesting for mayor post.
In the afternoons, campaigns are made in almost all the corner of the
city cna continue till 8pm. Taking the opportunities, all the 12 mike
shops of the city are doing brick business. On the other hand,
detective branch of Sylhet metropolitan police marked 60 out of 100
vote centers of city corporation election as risk-prone and 20 out the
60 risk prone centers marked as high risk-prone. But the voters are
till silent and are just observing the situation. The total scenario
of the city has changed after 26th May, the last day of the withdrawal
of the nomination papers.
The election now is the question of prestige for ruling coalition 14
parties and opposition 18 parties’ aliens. Facing the realities a
large number heavy weight central leaders of the both aliens are now
visiting and staying Sylhet and attending the campaigning in favor of
their candidates.
Central leader of 14 parties aliens including advisor of AL Amir Hosen
Amu, Tufayel Ahmed, Md. Nasim tokk part of the campaigning in favor of
Bodor Uddin Ahmed Kamran. They are meet with the party leaders and
workers several time and visit door to door for bagging vote. They are
bagging vote showing the develiopment work of their candidate. None of
them talking about the trail of war criminals and even demand
punishment of the Jammat shibir or their associates.
On the other hand, central leader of 18 parties aliens including vice
chairman of BNP Shomser Mubin Chowdhury, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury,
Khondokar Mosharrof Hossain, Shakhawat Hossain Jibon till staying
Sylhet and visiting door to door for bagging vote in favor of their
candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
EC offices in Sylhet said that they are completing preparation for
third SCC election. In this election, transparent voting box may be
used, as it will took decision by authority. A two-day training of
election officials on using electronic voting machine and electoral
rules and processes ended yesterday at Sylhet Modon Mohon College
Center under ward-2 of Sylhet City Corporation. The trained officials
after the training hoped to use the EVM efficiently and conduct the
poll under free fair procedure.
Election Commission decided that mock voting would be held on June 9
and 10 Sunday and Monday by using electronic voting machine in one
centers at ward-2, Sylhet City Corporation election scheduled to be
held on June 15, informed returning officer.
Candidates, specially the ward commissioner candidates are now very
much busy by attending social functions, gathering and personally
contacting peoples of their localities. Maximum of them offered
special prayer in the cemetery of the parents and hold ziarat of
different Mazars. Sylhet city has now turned as a city of propaganda
as all the corner of the city covered with the brought out procession
every evening.
It is alleged that a section of candidates are also distributing
relief items, grants and donations and eagerly waiting for the party
nomination declaration of election schedule, however the election is
called as non political.
In the city, it is to be found almost everywhere that a section of
workers of the candidates campaigning from early morning to mid night.
Roadside hotels of the city are now a best place of vote gossiping.
RAB and police started patrolling in every sensational corner of the
city.
