Dhaka=BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday alleged that the government is pushing the country towards a ‘civil war’ by taking a move to remove Ziaur Rahman’s grave from the Parliament area.“You (PM) want to implement an evil plot and destroy Ziaur Rahman’s grave by bringing Louis I Kahn’s main design (of parliament). We want to tell the Prime Minister that you’re pushing the country towards an inevitable civil war,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Kalyan Party, marking its 9th founding anniversary.
Rizvi warned that the government will not be able to remove BNP founder Ziaur Rahman from the hearts of 16 crore people. “Even, you can’t suppress the 16 crore people by using Rab and police.”
Housing and Public Works Ministry last year proposed removing eight graves, including BNP founder Zia’s one, and some other establishments set up in the Parliament area reshaping the original design by Louis I Kahn.
Louis I Kahn’s original design of Parliament reached Dhaka on Thursday from the US’ Pennsylvania University.
Speaking at the programme, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said their party chairperson Khaleda Zia placed a 13-point proposal on constituting a stronger Election Commission for ensuring a fair election and a healthy democratic practice.
He criticised the Prime Minister for her comments that there will be no discussion with Khaleda Zia on her proposals, saying, “You (PM) can identify if there is any mistake or weakness in her proposals. Even, you can present any other better proposal if you have.”
