Comilla – The authorities declared Comilla Medical College closed for an indefinite period on Wednesday following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).Earlier, a clash broke out between two factions of BCL’s Comilla Medical College unit over establishing supremacy on the campus in the morning.
Abdur Rab, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said a two groups of BCL activists – one led by Nawshad and the other by Rahat — locked into a clash on the college campus at about 1.30am on Wednesday.
Later, the two groups, equipped with sharp weapons, attacked each other on Wednesday morning over the same issue.
At one stage, a chase and counter-chase took place between them that left 10 students injured.
Five of the injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
The academic council sat in a meeting around 10:00am today and took the decision fearing further deterioration of the situation, said Principal of the college Prof Mohsin-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury.
The male and female students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 11:00am and 4:00pm respectively.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident, said the Principal.
The committee has been asked to submit the report within seven working days. – UNB
