Indefinite transport strike begins in Khulna

To press a 13-ponit demand a section of Bangladesh Transport Workers
Union enforced an indefinite strike in Khulna Division since Monday
morning.
Five main demands are increasing workers’ salary and festival
allowance, ensuing their security, end to extortion and harassment by
police and proper evaluation of the workers by the owners.
No long distance bus or truck was seen plying the roads of 10
districts of Khulna division, connecting the capital, after the strike
started in the morning.
Some small vehicles like microbus and battery-run three-wheeler and
easy-bike were plying the roads as usual despite the strike.
Shahadat Mridha acting general secretary of Bangladesh Transport
Workers Union, announced the strike for indefinite period on Sunday
night.
The Transport Workers Union went on the strike as their earlier
deadline to meet their demands expired on June 16, said the union
sources.
The union issued the ultimatum from a meeting in April.
