Dhaka – A court here on Wednesday sentenced two people to death and another one to seven years’ imprisonment for abducting and killing a schoolboy, after which they disposed of the body in a brick kiln fire.The convicts—Jakaria, 25, son of Abdul Mannan and Dalim, 20, son of Mohammad Ali of Kahalu upazila, who were tried in absentia—were also sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 1 lakh by the court.The court sentenced Abdul Matin, a brick kiln worker, to seven years imprisonment and fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up Naimul Islam Naim, a class seven student of Kahalu Pilot High School and son of Rafiqul Islam of Rustam Chapor Para on April 5, 2012 and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom while keeping him captive in a fertilizer shop. The same day, the convicts strangled the boy to death, apprehending he may identify them and dumped the body in the fire of a brick kiln.On April 9, 2012, the convicts took Tk 5 lakh from the victim’s father as well.As the killers stopped responding after taking the ransom money, Rafiqul Islam filed a case with Kahalu Police Station against ten people.Later police submitted a chargesheet against six people on December 11, 2012.Matin, who worked in the brick-kiln, testified before the court which exposed the gruesome murder.After examining records and 14 witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge Mohammad Hafizur Rahman handed down the verdict today.UNB
