Dhaka – Leaders of the E-9 countries under the UNESCO yesterday vowed to work together for the achievement of inclusive and equitable education by 2030.E-9 is an international platform of the nine counties that are working together to attain the goals of UNESCO’s Education for All (EFA) initiative. E stands for ‘education’ and 9 represents for nine countries – Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan.
The call came at a three-day E-9 Ministerial Meeting at Hotel Radisson in the capital. However, the delegates of Mexico did not participate in this year’s meeting. They gathered at the meeting to share their experiences related to education, exchange best practices and monitor EFA-related progress.
The E-9 came into being at the EFA Summit of the nine highly populated developing countries in New Delhi, India in 1993.
Earlier, in the first session prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the meeting and this is the first time such meeting is being held in the country.
During the meeting of the delegates of the e-9 countries, education minister said, “Quality education is still a challenge for Bangladesh and the government is working in that goal.”
“How will we define quality? How can we measure quality in different settings? Bangladesh, however, has started taking several steps including introduction of class assessment, creative system of question and simplification of curriculum,” he said.
Nahid, however, said the quality education cannot be achieved without preparing the teachers.
“Whatever may be the definition of quality education and whatever the challenges in education, we cannot achieve anything without preparing our teachers. Our teachers should be capable of and be committed,” he said.
“Our government is committed assist the teachers to achieve the goal of education,” he added. – Staff Reporter
